Privacy Policy

This is the privacy policy for cjpnagaland.com, the website of the Cockroach Janta Party Nagaland (CJP Nagaland). We are a satirical youth movement, not a registered political party and not a company selling anything. We built this site to be useful without being nosy, and this page explains exactly what that means in practice.

The short version: we do not ask for your phone number, we do not ask for Aadhaar, we never sell or rent anything about you, and most of what the site does collects nothing at all.

If you have a complaint about how your information has been handled, write to that address and we will respond. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to a response, and if you are not satisfied you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India.

What this site collects, part by part

1. Just reading the site

Nothing is collected by us. Like every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. These are kept by the host for security and troubleshooting. We do not use them to build any profile of you.

2. The member card maker

Collects nothing. The name you type, the district you pick and the card itself are created entirely inside your own browser and never sent to us. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and we have no way of knowing you used it. When you close the page, it is gone.

3. The rant box

Collects nothing. Pressing the button opens your own email app with your text already typed in. Nothing is saved on this website. You decide whether to press send, and if you do, we receive an ordinary email from you.

4. The member registry and leaderboard

This is the only part of the site that stores anything, and it is entirely optional. If you choose to register, we store:

  • The name you choose to display. It does not have to be your real name. A nickname is fine.
  • Your district. Chosen from a list. We do not ask for your address.
  • Which preset picture you picked.
  • Your email address, only if you choose to give one. It is optional and the form works without it. We use it only to help you recover your account. We do not send marketing.
  • Your points, your referral count, and which member referred you.
  • A scrambled, one way version of your IP address. We do not keep your actual IP in the registry. We keep a hash of it, which cannot be turned back into an IP address, purely to stop one person creating a hundred accounts and to stop people referring themselves.
  • The date of your last visit and how many minutes counted that day.

Your display name, district, picture, points and referral count are public, because that is what a leaderboard is. Your email address is never shown to anyone.

5. Things stored on your own device

If you register, your browser saves a private key so the site recognises you on your next visit. This lives on your device, not on ours, and it is how you stay logged in without a password. If a friend’s referral link brought you here, your browser also remembers that code until you close the tab, so we can credit them when you join. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes both.

6. The WhatsApp channel

The channel is run on WhatsApp, not on this website. What WhatsApp collects is governed by WhatsApp’s own privacy policy, not ours. We can see follower numbers, and we cannot see your phone number from a channel.

You must be 18 or older to join the registry

India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act requires verifiable consent from a parent or guardian before anyone can hold a child’s personal data. Rather than ask young people for their parents’ details, we simply do not register anyone under 18.

If you are under 18, you are still part of the swarm. Follow the channel, read the manifesto, and make yourself a member card. None of those store anything about you at all.

If we learn that someone under 18 has registered, we will delete their entry.

What we never do

  • We never sell, rent or trade your information. There is nobody to sell it to and we would not.
  • We never ask for your phone number, Aadhaar, voter ID, caste, tribe or religion.
  • We never share the registry with any political party, candidate or campaign.
  • We do not run advertising on this site and we do not use advertising trackers.
  • We do not track you across other websites.

How long we keep things

Registry entries are kept while the movement is active or until you ask us to remove yours. Ask, and we will delete it. Emails you send us are kept only as long as we need them to reply.

Your rights

Write to hello@cjpnagaland.com and you can:

  • Ask what we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct it.
  • Ask us to delete it, including your entry on the leaderboard.
  • Withdraw your consent, which means the same as asking us to delete it.
  • Complain, and get an answer from a real person.

Include your public member ID (it starts with NL-) so we can find you quickly.

Security, honestly stated

We keep the site updated, we use encrypted connections, we ask for as little as possible, and we do not store passwords because there are none to store. We are a small volunteer movement, not a bank, so we will not pretend our security is perfect. That is one more reason we deliberately hold so little.

Changes to this policy

If we change what the site collects, we will change this page and update the date at the top.
